Goldsmiths North: Capturing ‘Summer Elegance’
This summer we celebrated the first annual Goldsmiths North event, a silverware and jewellery selling fair hosted in the heart of Sheffield at the Cutlers’ Hall. After working on the branding and promotion for over a year, we were thrilled to see the fair come together and to witness the success of the all the hard work the team at GN had invested.
We were honoured to design the branding, promotional material and online presence for the first year of Goldsmiths North. Our brief was to capture the luxury and prestige of the fair whilst enabling the event to stand out from existing shows in the calendar. The objective was to convey “summer elegance” in a way that was distinctive and contemporary, reflecting the wide range of talented exhibitors.
Keen to bring a timeless aesthetic within the characteristics of the design, we developed a brand mark that intertwines a ‘G’ and ‘N’ into a seamless form of beauty in itself. It was essential that colour played a leading role in the brand identity, we therefore curated a palette of vibrant interchangeable colourways with a nod to British summertime.
The interactive nature of choosing a favourite colour combination brought a sense of fun and playfulness, whilst leaving a lasting impression.
One of our largest tasks was to produce the annual; a 100 page guide given to visitors, housing insightful features from a range of talented exhibitors, restaurant editorials and places of interest not to miss while visiting Sheffield. We chose heavyweight paper stock and a soft touch lamination for the cover paired with a spot gloss over the logo, giving a velvet-like texture to create a premium finish. Again, we wanted the colours to do the talking and allow people to choose their favourite, so printed 6 colourways. It was so rewarding to see the visitors at the show engrossed in their annuals whilst having a spot of lunch in the café.
The fair which ran over 3 consecutive days was a buzz with jewellery and silverware enthusiasts and an array of exquisite pieces that were available to purchase from 60 talented makers. The Cutler’s Hall was transformed into a sleek and contemporary area, perfect for spending a day admiring the beautiful work on offer. We had the pleasure of photographing the fair and meeting the exhibitors who had travelled from all over the country and some internationally. We were amazed to learn the processes involved in jewellery making and silversmithing and came away with pieces we will treasure.
